New Statesman names eco heroes and green villains
Well the real green heros never win a prize.
They just get shot.
They get put in prison.
But they win.
Invisible to the vast majority of environmentalists, the inter cultural association of the Peruvian Amazon, made up of the various tribal communities who live in the Amazon have prevented the Amazon from being trashed by oil companies in 2008 and 2009
They are the good news story and if you are serious about tackling climate change you recognise that their contribution has been massive.
Nonetheless good to see Marina Silva who will be running as Green candidate for the presidency of another country with plenty of Amazon gets a mention in the New Statesman hero category.
I guess they got that guy from BP to help with the judging because the head of the Beyond Planet corporation would know all about eco villains.

Against Climate Change Trade Union conference on Saturday 13th March, 2010.
Dear all,
This is advance notice of the Third Campaign Against Climate Change Trade Union conferenceon Saturday 13th March, 2010.
Our third conference will be following on from the successes of the previous events. At a time of growing economic uncertainty and a worsening environmental situation, the argument for a strategy of fighting for Green Jobs and urgent action on the Climate Emergency has never been clearer.
This conference will bring together campaigners and Trade Unionists to discuss how best to fight against Climate Change following the Copenhagen conference. We will bring together the activists who have campaigned around the Vestas occupation, with those who built the demonstrations around Copenhagen.
Scientists and activists will discuss the latest climate science, as well as the fall out from the Copenhagen conference.
With the launch of the CCC's pamphlet for 1,000,000 Climate Jobs, we will be giving space to Trade Unionists campaigning over the issue and help arm people with the ideas and arguments to carry the campaign further.
In particular, we'll be trying too allow delegates as much time and space as possible to be part of the discussions.
The conference is scheduled for Saturday 13 March 2010. Venue to be confirmed.

It is now clear that there will be no binding agreement at Copenhagen to stop runaway climate change. Is this the moment when lobbying governments ends, and a serious global social movement to stop climate change starts, with workers/trade unionists playing a key role?
Countdown to Copenhagen film night with Battersea and Wandsworth TUC's Red/Green unity network and Reel News will provide a chance to discuss the issues around the Copenhagen talks, how to get to Copenhagen for the mass mobilisations and what we can do locally.

Save Vestas
When the only wind turbine factory in England was threatened with closure, workers occupied the factory supported by an unprecedented red, green and black coalition. Featuring amazing footage from inside the occupation shot by the workers themselves, the dispute has led the way in bringing the battle for green jobs to the forefront.
Plymouth; Stop the Nuclear Waste Dump
Plymouth is already where nuclear submarines are refueled, to the detriment of local people's health. Now the privatised dockyard want to decommission submarines there too - by sawing the core reactors into pieces and storing them in warehouses in the centre of a population of 250,000 people! If Trident was scrapped, these docks could provide 1,000s of green jobs producing renewable energy equipment, with very little extra investment.
Climate Camp: Kingsnorth
Last year's climate camp saw an increased trade union presence as they fought to stop a new coal-fired power station being built - a campaign that has just resulted in an incredible victory. With footage of the spectacular direct action that brought it about, this film looks at the arguments against "clean coal" and for the creation of millions of green jobs.

Could green party candidate help elect a BNP MP?
Discusssion welcome on this, Hodge is a gift to Nick Griffin, Labour by be irrelevent to the working class are creating a spring board for British fascism. This is from my friend 'Verde'.
The possibility of the Green Party not standing in Barking was discussed at the London Green Party’s AGM in September and there was a fair amount of support for this in view of the BNP threat. Now with the announcement of Griffin standing, Green Left will do everything possible to persuade the London party not to stand any candidates there and to support the main ‘progressive’ candidate against him. I share the views of many here about Hodge. She is vile and has pandered totally, as have many others in New Labour, to the BNP’s anti-immigrant agenda. I watched a Newsnight programme with her last year where her solution to voter disengagement was that her electors could always “come and have a chat with tea and biscuits with me”. The working class panel opposite her, which included Bob Crow just laughed in ridicule at her Lady of the Manor airs. She also presided over terrible things in Islington re childrens’ homes and I am sure that the BNP will use that against her.

ONE MILLION CLIMATE JOBS NOW
The Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Group has produced a 50 page pamphlet, ONE MILLION CLIMATE JOBS NOW. This comes out of an alliance of a wide range of unions, campaigns and experts.
This is not a policy report intended to be read by a few and gather dust. It is the first step in a national campaign to make the government employ a million unemployed workers to save the climate. It contains the arguments workers need for building that campaign. It will take mass action to make the government act. But first we have to convince people. Here is how we start:

The key step is to get a small group of union activists together to start organising. Four people in a room in your town is enough. The Campaign union group will send a speaker. Contact Martin Empson on 07958535231.
Then contact union branches and workplace groups in your town. Ask the reps to take five or ten copies. If they take it and like it, try to get a speaker to a branch meeting or stewards meeting. Contact by phone is better than email, contact in person is best.
Organise a public meeting for One Million Climate Jobs Now in January or Feb. This does not have to be large. All it has to be is the largest meeting of union members about climate ever in your city. That's not very big. For speakers contact Martin Empson 0795853231.
The Campaign will be sending out copies of a petition and a model union resolution, and will campaign for the TUC to call a national demonstration.
A longer report will come out in March. And the Campaign against Climate Change will have a national conference on Saturday March 15 in London to discuss how we organise to win a million new jobs
