One of my Green Left comrades has just told me not only that Eid, Hanukkah, Solstice and Christmas are pretty close together but it's Iranian longest night of the year...tonight...so enjoy!
Well you learn something every day....thanks Payam
Well, as an Iranian, I'm celebrating Shab e Yalda tonight with parents and other friends, the longest night of the year. Traditionally, we stay up late into the night, having pomegranate, watermelon and other such delights along with music and dance. It dates back to pre-Islamic times (when Zorastrianism was the dominant religion of Persia).

Nice blog entry on all this here.
