Green Support for Peace Camp at USAF Mildenhall, Suffolk.

Good to see Councillor Read doing his bit to stop war! He is a Wittgensteinscholar as well.

Green Support Peace Camp at USAF Mildenhall, Suffolk.

THE GREEN PARTY WILL BE DEMONSTRATING AGAINST THE PROVEN USE OF THIS BASE TO RESUPPLY ISRAELI FORCES AND TO REFUEL U.S AIR PLANES ENGAGED IN RESUPPLYING OPERATIONS

Green Cllr. Rupert Read, Norwich and District Peace Council rep., said "We object to the use of Mildenhall to refuel U.S. planes that bring weapons (very probably including prohibited weapons) to Israel for its use in waging war upon Lebanon and Palestine, a war that has most likely only been lightly interrupted by the latest developments on the world stage. Surely the ceasefire that has recently been brokered should be an opportunity to de-escalate the crisis, not to supply yet more weapons to Israel, which has used its overwhelming military force so disproportionately in the recent conflict.

"Furthermore, it is vital for us to be at Mildenhall in order to continue the process of finding out just what exactly is going on there, in what is in effect a bit of America on British soil -- even the government has very little idea what is going through the base. It is well-established that Mildenhall is being used as part of the U.S.'s appalling 'extraordinary rendition' programme, which 'exports' people from America to be tortured in countries like Uzbekistan."

Green Party MEP Jean Lambert, voiced her support for the campaigners: ""Refuelling air planes and re-supplying Israeli forces via the US base Midenhall, Suffolk seems to be yet another case of the UK Government turning a blind eye towards unacceptable activities simply because of the UK’s sheer unwillingness to upset the USA.

“During times of conflict, particularly that which has not been sanctioned under international law, we have an obligation not to provide support or assistance in any way. The UK Government have made a grave error by allowing such activity to take place, especially when we have so recently seen the huge humanitarian and environmental costs of conflict in Lebanon.

“The activities in Suffolk once again raise continuing questions over what control we really do have over those with whom we stand shoulder to shoulder.”
